Black Friday bug bit me

I was searching for print-from-iphone apps over the internet when I came across another iphone application called Black Friday. I mistakenly thought of it as having religious connections because my brain mixed Good Friday & Black Saturday. Common! It's too early in the morning. LOL!

Curiousity took over me that I began researching about Black Friday. Here's what I found out.

As it turned out, the Black Friday being reffered to was the Friday after the thanksgiving - a major holiday in the United States. Thanks, wikipedia!

Though it is not an official holiday, Black Friday came to be a big shopping day. Stores take advantage of this day to offer great sales because most are off from work. Thus, it has become the unofficial start of the christmas shopping spree.

Going back to the Black Friday iphone application, it is called mall maps - you are here. The application is designed to help shoppers during black friday with a database of stores and mall floor directories.

As there are big items on sale during black friday, a shopper needs to get ahead of other customers. Knowing where to find that coveted item on sale is winning half the battle. Most shoppers line up as early as 5 am to get ahead. With this application, he or she can go directly and immediately to the desired section after the store opens its doors.

Well, Black Friday is now another trivia for me and for you. ;)

Of Breastcancer - Swallowing might be better than cure

Sometimes, the good ol' warning that you won't get anything good out of browsing adult-related websites, does not ring true. Just like this one from awesome FAD.

The results of a research study by the North Carolina State University from 2003 show that women who perform fellatio (or “blowjob” in colloquial language) and swallow semen regularly, one to two times a week, may reduce their risk of breast cancer by up to 40 percent.

- Sources: Link1 & Link2

Guys, let's hold our horses. Hehehe!. This is a delicate subject with women just as I found out moments ago from a dear lady friend. Women who don't swallow will be just fine. Not swallowing does not increase the risk of breastcancer.

Today is Square Root Day

Apparently, math-loving people has declared a Square Root Day.

I was browsing google trends and found that it is the number 1 search phrase for today, March 3, 2009. And its because today is square root day.

Wikipedia thankfully has a definition of this day. It says that Square root day is a humorous holiday celebrated on dates where the day and the month are both the square root of the last two digits in the current year.

Another trivia for figure lovers. There are only nine square root day in a century. The last one for this century will be on September 9, 2081 (9/9/81).

I don't think I'm still be alive by that time though. But I hope I could share this info to my grandkids in those bonding sessions. Hahaha!!!

Water for the Poor at freepoverty.com

I was lazily browsing the internet, dropping Entrecards every now and then when I accidently hit a badge that led me to freepoverty.com.

The site offers a game that aims to donate cups of water for the poor. So, I decided to play the game and the result can be seen at the bottom of my blog.
map game at freepoverty.comI liked history way back in high school and seeing the map of the world lay before my eyes immediately caught my attention.

The object of the game is to point in the map the location being displayed in the question bar. The closer you pinpoint, the higher the cups of water you donate with 10 cups being the highest.

I was glad Manila, Philippines was asked. I noticed I had an easier time pinpointing the location of European countries who were major characters in WWII like France, UK, Germany, Italy. Of course Southeast Asia and the middle East.

I have a terrible time guessing countries from the African continent and the now defunct USSR region.

For those geography buffs out there, I urge you to play the game to get your geographic fixed while donating cups of water to the poor at the same time.

Ultimate Cola Showdown

Finally, a showdown between beverages giants: Coca Cola vs. Pepsi Cola from halohalo.ph. An online poll that can, at the very least show, which is more popular or more preferred.

What is best? Coca-Cola or Pepsi vote now and win 1 years supply of it.
What is best? Coca-Cola or Pepsi vote now and win 1 years supply of it.

Just ignore the use of grammar. Hehehe! Why don't you join? Good Luck! ;)

DISCLAIMER: Join at your own risk. The author disclaims any liability from any kind of damages arising from joining this contest.

I have no idea what are the actual percentage of these two beverage makers in terms of market shares. But an online poll like this could be a good indicator. I am not particularly fond of drinking softdrink, but I prefer Pepsi.

I wish that the organizers of this poll will disclose the results.

Given the ubiquity of stores, fastfoods and malls here in the Philippines, its pretty clear that softdrink have been a part of Filipino eating habits. As such, we can definitely compare the two.

A one year supply? That would certainly help softdrink lovers have their fix! If you like cola, you better join in this ultimate cola showdown.

In case you win, though, I would like to suggest that you drink it moderately.

Four Natural Wonders of the Philippines

I've just voted in the New 7 Wonders of Nature Selection in support of the four nature's wonders that can be found in my beloved Philippines.

I voted for Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, Tubbataha Reef, Chocolate Hills and the Mayon Volcano.

As I understand it, the organizers of this search will get the top 21 nominees to be considered in the next phase of the selection process. As of today, I am really glad that our four treasured wonders is in the top 21.

I urged then, all Filipinos to take part in this activity to let the rest of the world know the beauty and wonder that they can find in the Philippines.

It gives me great pride and pleasure to let the world know in my simple blogging way of the beauty of my country.

It is also in this rare occasion that I could directly do something for my country.
But my ultimate act of support will be to visit all of these wonders in the near future.

If you also intend to visit them, the following links can provide you with great information.

1. Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park
2. Tubbataha Reefs
3. Chocolate Hills
4. Mayon Volcano
