Of Graduation and Graduation Gifts

I overheard a couple in the MRT happily talking about their daughter's graduation and what would they give as graduation gift. Hearing that reminded me that March and April are months for this kind of thing and, of course, my own graduation and graduation gift.

I consider myself lucky to have had three graduations. But it was only in my college graduation when I had the luxury of receiving a graduation gift. By default, it was the best graduation gift ever! Hehehe! Well, aside from that, it was the best because it was a slightly used Nokia 3210 and during that time, just 2 or 3 models away from being the latest in the market. That meant too, that I'm "in" the gadget-crazed generation.

A friend shared that she will be giving her nephew who finished Nursing a complete set of Calvin Klein perfume. Yes, it was on sale. But just the same, it gave me a small tinged of envy. I felt that was more thoughtful than what I got and useful too.

The spartan in me thinks that only college graduation should be afforded graduation gifts. And since, gift-giving ideas is never my forte, I would pronounce gadgets as great graduation gifts. Besides easier to purchase, gadgets like mobile phones or PDA would serve them good in their job hunting endeavor.

Good thing, I have at least 20 years to save for my first born's graduation gift!
